I begin this fabulous reading list — our top 12 on Medium — on a joyful note. Ask me why! I had a pretty good week accomplishing quite a few things as planned. Okay — I did tweak the plan, but it was still great. Please allow me to show off a little.
Met two work deadlines on time.
Met a dear, dear friend, the wonderful Sujona Chatterjee, who is an amazing writer on Medium.
Did a massive amount of decluttering and house cleaning. I mean, I surprised even myself at the amount of work I managed. Talk about surpassing my own expectations. I say yeah!
Got back to regular yoga classes despite the morning vertigo. I am thrilled!
Did a lot of cooking — making preserves and masalas. This is a process (and I would call it therapeutic) because of the steps involved in getting the ingredients together, roasting or frying them, grinding them, and bringing them all together into delicious dishes — and storing them carefully. Yum!
That list goes on, but I think we’ll stop with the highlights for now. I’ve also been stress-free thanks to meditation and regular pranayama.
In other news…
CC6 is burgeoning with some fantastic participation and is on to its second stage. You can find the update here. Read the entries and cheer the writers!
………..and we are back to me! Or rather, food fun. We have been experiencing heavy rains and the weather went from truly hot to chill in a matter of moments. We are NOT complaining. We are just relieved that our city is simply living up to its reputation. And we’re craving corn on the cob — locally grown — not the sweet corn stuff 🙄. And as I roast it and rub it down with lemon juice+salt+chat masala — and drool — my folks impatiently wait.
We are also enjoying other savories with more than one cup of coffee or tea, as the mood takes us.
The perfect accompaniment to some great writing and reading. And thus, let us enjoy this week’s picks from across Medium!
Penofgold’s Fly Whisperer had me laughing so hard. The beauty of the post is its descriptiveness and therein is some great writing. Laugh and enjoy!
May is Mental Health Month and Wendi Gordon’s post about how she’s taking care of hers via writing is a beautiful read. So many takeaways! Please read and share!
Meredith Cummings post about how she raised her daughter in a shopping mall is a major tissue alert of the good kind. I simply loved her post as it brought back wonderful memories of my own for me.
Juana Flor is practicing gratitude for 28 days in a row and her post is excellent advice for the rest of us to do the same. Counting our blessings is the best math we could ever learn!
If you are still wondering what is the right way to correctly tag someone on Medium, Indigo has you covered. Read and learn!
Mary Liga, in her post, talks about why avoidance is not a strategy when it comes to anxiety. A great read!
Natasha Nichole Lake’s words are always a delight to read and this post of hers is no exception. No spoilers here — go and enjoy it. I guarantee it is wonderful!
We go to school to learn, but there are five practical lessons they don’t teach you there, as Cynthia C Farley points out. Very good read!
I dream of being a minimalist but I am not at all sure I can do it. Still, inching towards progress via baby steps. Kelly talks about what she learned from living out of a suitcase for a year. Excellent read — and so inspiring.
I was fascinated to read Fatima Mukhtar’s post about how two teenagers created a successful brand from one viral post. Encouraging for all the entrepreneurs among us!
William Vincent Carleton’s conversational post about the neem tree is a fun read, while packing in lots of useful information.
For the tea lovers among us, Cedric Boogaerts shares what happened when he stopped drinking coffee and switched to matcha, a healthier alternative. We hear you, Cedric. But I am never giving up coffee although I am open to trying matcha!
And that’s a wrap for this week!
