Episode 5: Write Your Way to Success
Be proud of every article you have written and make your reader feels like the latest article is the best article you have ever created
Online writing has evolved since I started writing, yet it is very much still evolving.
There was a time in the past writers could write interesting topics, and their essays would get viral frequently enough to provide a stable income. This was especially true on Medium. But gone are those days. Today, it would be a daunting task to quit your job to depend on your writing for a living. Trying to get a viral article on any platform these days is much like buying a lottery; if you don’t have to depend on it for a living, perhaps it is ok to try your luck, but if you do, you will die disappointed. The primary motivation to write shouldn’t be about money. Otherwise, your passion will die quickly when the bulk of your pristine articles are not making you enough money.
Readers are window shoppers
Window shopping, also known as browsing, refers to an activity in which a consumer browses through or examines a store’s merchandise as a leisure pastime without paying.
Window shopping has evolved into the digital realm. With the advent of online shopping and social media platforms, understanding this consumer behaviour has become important for people vying to attract window shoppers to become their free subscribers.
The first thing to understand is window shoppers want to read your writing for free. If you want them to pay, no one is coming in.
Why is this important? There are tons of readers online every day, and the first thing you have to pray for is your article gets into their reading feed. The more window shoppers you have standing in front of your shop each day, the more likely you will attract some free subscribers or if you are lucky enough, a couple of paying customers.
