Some Thoughts After Getting Back on Medium
If you don’t do well, don’t blame the platform; look inward and readjust your strategy.
Something didn’t quite feel right since I got back on Medium. The platform recommends old posts, and some even have cobwebs on them. The average age is at least three months old, with most of them from 2022 and a handful from 2019. Was it just me, or is this happening to most users? I literally have to search for content to read on my own. Somehow the platform’s AI has gone retard.
I don’t usually like to write about things like this, but it is getting on my nerve again, bringing back old memories of why I didn’t want to return to Medium in the first place. If someone like me who seldom uses Medium feels it, I can only imagine what the rest who writes here every day have to put up with. It is not difficult to understand why people on Medium must write about Medium. Otherwise, there is nowhere else to vent the angst impressed upon them by the system. This is the love-hate conundrum about Medium. On the one hand, there are so many things to love about Medium; on the other, there are unbearable pains about the platform to tolerate.
You don’t need to be an expert to know what’s happening. The only question is, “why?”. What is the reason behind this? We can only guess. It is not as if the management doesn’t know about these pains. It is just that they have no solution for them, much like the congressional hearing on TikTok. All the concerns cited to ban TikTok are valid, and they know these concerns are not unique to TikTok. But all of them have decided to turn a blind eye to the real problem and conveniently point their fingers at something that is most convenient to blame.
