It has become a routine for me to wake up every Sunday morning at around 5 am. The first order of business is usually to make myself a cup of aromatic coffee to awaken my senses and put me in a positive mood. I would then sit down to read the news and catch up on the latest happenings around the world.
I would do some pushups just before 6 am to get my heart pumping and blood flowing. It's a great way to heat up my engine before heading out for a brisk walk.
Brisk walking is a form of exercise that I enjoy doing which can help to keep my body weight in check, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and improve my mental well-being. It has often been overlooked and trivialised, even though we can list down many good benefits.
One of the best places to go for a morning walk is the Marina Bay area in Singapore. This beautiful place is surrounded by several parks filled with many scenic views, lush gardens, and iconic city landmarks, making it a perfect place to chill and relax and, in my case, to kickstart a beautiful day.
The weather was cool in the early hours of the morning, with gentle breeze blowing through the park. The air was refreshing, and it felt invigorating to take in deep breaths of oxygen. As I started walking, it was common to see many joggers and parkgoers already enjoying their morning exercise. Some were stretching, while others were already in a full sprint. It was a sight to behold and an indication of the bay area's popularity for morning exercise.
As I continued my walk, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful greenery around the city. The bay area has an impressive collection of plants and trees, and it's hard not to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds it. There is even a world-renowned Gardens By The Bay situated in the area.
As I walked towards the bay area, I could see the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel towering over the skyline. It's a magnificent sight to behold, and it reminded me of how Singapore has transformed into a bustling metropolis in recent years. The skyscrapers and modern architecture of the city were juxtaposed with the bay and greenery, a beautiful contrast.
As I got closer to the water, I could see the iconic Merlion statue, symbolising Singapore's cultural heritage. As the sun began to rise, the sky was painted with hues of orange and blue. A breathtaking sight and it makes me feel privileged to be a Singaporean. The sunrise over the bay area was a reminder of how small we are in this vast universe and how we should appreciate every moment of our lives.
The cool breeze that blew through the park made the walk refreshing and enjoyable. It was the perfect temperature, cool and nice, and it helped me stay energized throughout my exercise. Brisk walking is an exercise that I've come to appreciate more in recent years. For people like me who couldn’t sustain heavy beating on the knees, it is ideal, given the low-impact and easy-to-do exercise.
As I continued my walk, I could see many people enjoying the park in their own unique ways. Some were cycling, while others were taking selfies and doing static exercises. It was interesting to see how people found different ways to enjoy the Marina and incorporate exercise into their daily routine. The Bay Area provides a great environment for everyone to come together and enjoy the natural beauty of Singapore.
In a world that is constantly striving for excitement and novelty, it's easy to overlook the beauty of everyday mundane moments. A brisk walk through the park or a good breakfast after a refreshing morning workout are the moments that made up the bulk of my Sunday routine. While society may value the hustle and bustle, I've learned that a peaceful life is a good life, and a mundane life is the highest form of living, a meaningful one in fact. In these quiet moments, we can reflect, recharge, and find deeper meaning in our otherwise boring lives.
