Mind+Craft: Grow Your Mind and Improve Your Writing Craft
In response to Coffee Challenge: This is my weekly newsletter.
This is me on one of my most serene trips. Years ago, I found myself on a business trip in Adelaide and took a ferry off the coast of Australia to Kangaroo Island. I was alone, with no phone to distract me, and felt completely disconnected from the world. I was finally able to listen to my own thoughts and be present.
Something magical happens when you are able to observe your thoughts. When you aren’t judging them, just observing them. You begin to organize them into two bins:
Other people’s thoughts inside my head.
This leads to clarity which unlocks creativity level: infinity. This is why solitude is so important to the writer. The words you write are going to come from your thoughts, so it is vital to keep them organized. It took me too long to figure this out. This is why I started my newsletter: to help anyone out there start their writing journey.
My newsletter will give you tips on how to grow your mind, improve your thought process and improve your writing craft.
I believe the two are interdependent. As you write better, you think better and vice versa. As you learn to think better, the quality of your life instantly improves. This is the magic of writing. This is the glitter I want to spread.
To write better, you need to do it often and you need to build a habit. Building a habit is hard work. It takes dedication and accountability. You have to love the process and be prepared to put in the hours of work. Pure passion will only take you so far. Diligence will take you the distance. This is one of the reasons I am starting this newsletter. Help me, help you.
Come roam the depths of the human psyche and get practical tips and information on how to improve your writing craft and your life.
I read at least 2 books a month to improve my craft and I will share that knowledge with you to help you improve your writing.
Along the way, I will tell you what I am reading and how it is helping me grow. Learn from the lessons I read about and bring more joy to your life!
Here is the welcome issue to get you started:
Issue #2 talks about how to become an observer of your own thoughts. “The Untethered Soul” talks about this in detail. I believe this is the most important skill we need to develop to deal with any difficulty in life.
Issue #3 Teaches you how to set goals to maximize your success. Learn how to write more interesting dialogue and lastly, a great fiction recommendation.
As the newsletter grows, I plan to make it more succinct. High value without the lengthy content. So, stay tuned!
