How I Leveraged Writing to Establish a Daily Exercise Habit
It is time to give an update on my exercise routine
I wrote this article a while back, announcing my 90-day challenge to build a daily exercise habit, hoping to establish a healthy lifestyle. It has been some weeks since I embarked on this journey, so I guess it is time to give an update on how I have faired thus far.
Despite my initial enthusiasm to establish a daily exercise routine, I soon found my motivation quickly fizzled out. I started strong, waking up at 5 am for a brisk walk at the park in the morning and feeling energized by the fresh air and exercise before starting my day at the office. However, it only lasted for three days before I began to feel increasingly lethargic and unmotivated. The fire that had initially spurred me to take on the 90-day challenge died out quickly, and I found myself struggling to find the energy to continue with the routine. I needed to find another way to re-ignite my motivation and make exercise a more sustainable part of my daily life.
That’s when I decided to try incorporating exercise directly into my working routine – by giving up driving and taking public transportation and walking to the office instead. The decision to give up driving was not an easy one. For years, I had relied on my car to get around, and I had become accustomed to the convenience and comfort that it provided. However, as I started to think more about my health and the ways to get around my lack of motivation, I began to consider alternatives.
At first, the idea of taking public transport was daunting. I live far from my workplace, and the thought of having to walk the distance every day to the MRT station to squeeze into the crowded train was not particularly appealing. However, soon as I saw this as an opportunity to save on fuel and parking, the monetary savings suddenly became an added motivation. I started to walk to the MRT station every morning and then from the station to my office. It is a few kilometres each way, but I found it a great way to do some brisk walking and get some fresh air before the start of my workday.
