Breaking Down The Differences Between The Chinese and The Americans
They both valued freedom, but one value personal freedom while the other wants financial freedom.
I enjoy swiping TikTok videos. Thanks to the AI algorithm that has learnt my preference, clips on my feed tend to be packed with meaningful messages. One that caught my eyes recently was about the different take on life between the West (the Americans) and the East (the Chinese).
The video discussed the differences in societal behaviours and their fundamental values toward life. Two notable disparities were highlighted. Americans tend to value personal freedom, while the Chinese often place a significant emphasis on achieving financial freedom. The interesting part is the resulting impact that this seemingly insignificant difference has on the two cultures and the potential influence it has on their respective futures.
Americans Embrace Personal Freedom
Americans' embrace of personal freedom is intricately tied to their belief in democracy, a cornerstone of American society. The democratic principles of individual rights, freedom of expression, and the pursuit of freedom are deeply ingrained in American culture. Americans see personal freedom as essential for fostering a thriving democracy, allowing citizens to exercise their rights, voice their opinions, and shape the direction of their lives and communities. This belief in the power of personal freedom within a democratic framework fuels their pursuit and appreciation of life's experiences. Americans value the ability to make choices freely, explore diverse ideas, and engage in open dialogue, seeing these as vital components of a robust democracy.
Chinese Pursue Financial Freedom
In contrast to the American emphasis on personal freedom, the Chinese place a greater value on achieving financial freedom, recognizing that economic stability is the gateway to greater welfare and ensures resources to access a better lifestyle and opportunities for upward mobility. This fundamental value within the society is what the Chinese government leverages to uplift its entire population out of debt and poverty within a short frame of time. Chinese individuals strive to secure their financial freedom and ensure stability for themselves and their families. They view financial freedom as a means to enjoy life, provide for their loved ones, and establish a solid foundation for a better future. Financial freedom and the accumulation of wealth are often seen as symbols of social status and accomplishment in Chinese society.
