Are You One of Those Writers Who Likes To Grade an Article and Dole Out Claps Accordingly?
Life newsletter #14 features winners of the CC6 Substack Challenge and other exciting highlights
So how many claps do you think your article deserves? One, two, none?
I’ve been reading laments about the one clappers since I started on Medium a year ago.
The funny thing is nobody seems to know what runs through the mind of the one clapper except when they happen to be new to this platform and are yet to figure out that up to 50 claps are possible.
So, you know me — guess what I did?
I went looking for them and boy, did I find them.
Their posts justifying why they only give one clap are everywhere if you are willing to look deep enough.
This one writer, a few months old on Medium, opined that they tend to gauge an article on its quality — the content, the structuring, the grammar, the style, the development of ideas, and so on. They were fine with getting one clap as well for their article.
Each to his own I say. But then again Medium being an engagement platform, I have found that writing articles is just one part of the equation. Engaging your readers and engaging with other writers to build a supportive community is another part of the equation.
In her article, writer Lauren Johnson Gonzales gives 5 excellent reasons why she loves clapping:
It’s a show of appreciation for the time the author put into writing, time they may have taken away from other equally worthy activities.
It’s a show of appreciation for the work and effort from an author.
It’s a show of appreciation for the author’s courage in opening a part of their soul to the reader.
It’s a show of appreciation for the author sharing their thoughts. There is no greater gift than coming across a new idea that lights a fire in your mind and inspires you to be better.
And, appreciation feels good. Valuing the people around us makes our community stronger and forges a sense of connection between us all.
🌸I would love to know your thoughts regarding clapping on Medium. Please share!🌸
As you may know, pockett dessert kindly agreed to do the Life month of June guest collab prompt👇
The response to the prompt has been amazing and I would like to thank Pockett D and all the writers who have responded thus far (the prompt will run throughout the month of June so please feel free to respond if you feel inspired).
Hi there stackers!
We have finally come to the end of our journey with CC6 and what a journey it was!
I would like to thank all the participants as well as the judges — Liberty Forrest, Dr. Preethi Singh, and Vidya Sury as well as the chief editor of Coffee Times, Winston for making this possible.
As you know, CC6 is comprised of 2 rounds. One was in response to the prompt“Why You Should Subscribe to my Newsletter.” and the second was the testimonial round.
The winners were determined based on 2 criteria: How convincing the reasons in the main article are in response to the prompt as well as how compelling the 3 testimonials are in the summary article.
